What can research infrastructure providers do to encourage open science?

The research landscape is complex, and different actors have different options to help with a systemic move towards open science.

Research infrastructure providers

• provide research infrastructure
• interact with other infrastructure providers
• interact with other research stakeholders
• care about standards
• do many other things

In this thread, I would like us to explore which options research infrastructure providers have to encourage open science in-house as well as in the communities and other stakeholders they interact with.

Work towards integrating with open science workflows, e.g. by way of APIs.

• Use open standards.
• When you use and produce software, go for FLOSS whenever possible.
• Use open licenses for content/ outreach/ other materials you produce.
• Use open formats. If that is not fully possible, try ingesting non-open formats and convert them to open ones by default.

They need to provide training program that educate the research how to use the infrastructure in an open manner.

Make it easy to share workflows non-publicly, and to make non-public workflows public.
