It's okay for questions to be on topic on multiple Stack Exchange sites. I can't find a canonical Meta post on this, but it's important across the network.

Here are some examples of site overlap:

• Mathematics and Math Overflow
• Physics and Astronomy
• Engineering and Aviation
• History of Science & Mathematics and History

Open data is extraordinarily important to open science endeavors. I say questions about it should be on topic, and we should not migrate questions about it.

Don't, however, ask questions here that have been already asked there, and vice versa. We should also be vigilant about making sure that questions about data here aren't already answered on Open Data.

It's a shame that the [se] system of sites doesn't offer more flexible options. Ideally here we'd have a close as duplicate *on another site* and leave the question here but point to [opendata.se], just as an within-site duplicate would.

Overlapping with other sites is a perfectly normal thing. In fact, they are healthy for sites. Don't be concerned that just because one thing is on-topic on one site, doesn't mean that it will have to be off-topic here.

However, let me raise one thing: beta sites cannot migrate questions. Don't make the assumptions that you can do this, because you can not. If something is off-topic, please use a custom off-topic reason, so that the entire community can thoroughly understand why.

You'll have overlap. I'm a pro tem moderator over at Open Source. Will you have overlap? Of course you will. That's perfectly fine, you have nothing to worry about.

Focus on this site, not others.

The questions can be migrated once the site will have pro-tempore moderators, so they can perform this task once the question will receive enough votes. Meanwhile I think all questions can be allowed as far they're on open science topic.

If you think some question is cross-posted, simply comment on it or flag for moderator intervention.

@Zizouz212 I don't think so. [This question](http://biology.stackexchange.com/q/31133/1195) has been migrated from Health into Biology SE site during its beta stage (which is still the case) by [majority of votes](http://health.stackexchange.com/posts/146/revisions).
