What can and does go wrong in open science projects?

This question came up in the "Platforms facilitating open science" session at FlashForwardFest today, and I think it merits some more thought than we could spend on it then, so I am posting this here in anticipation of your thoughts on the matter.

Maybe you can get a bit more specific and also outline how the database nightmares in open science projects differ from those in non-open ones?

Maybe they don't. In non-open science projects, people can just pretend that absurd laws on databases do not exist. Their data will vanish before anyone can try to use it anyway. Open science is supposed to increase data reuse, and if properly done it often does so, therefore database rights are more likely to surface somewhere.
